Deshaun Thomas scores 19 points to keep alive Ohio State's Big Ten title hopes

Ohio State Buckeyes defeat Illinois Fighting Illini 68-55 to stay in the top of the Big Ten race. Deshaun Thomas, senior at Ohio State, scores 19 points and Aaron Craft scores 14 points with 6 assists giving the Buckeyes the victory over Fighting Illini.

Buckeyes played tremendous defense in order to secure a victory and have won five in a row. Furthermore, the Buckeyes have secured a position in the Tournament and will play in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday against the winner of Purdue and Nebraska.

March Madness Predictions 2013

The NCAA Tournament is around the corner as the 2012-2013 NCAA season is coming to a close. The opening round games will begin on March 19. As always the question is which teams will make it deep into the NCAA Tournament?

These are the teams that are looking strong and are proving themselves to become the best:

Indiana- Indiana Hoosiers have been named as one of the teams to beat since before the season began. They have an opportunity to achieve the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament as they are currently ranked the No. 2 in both National polls and have the No. 6 RPI figure. This is the team to look out for because they are the March Madness betting favorite.

Gonzaga- Currently, Gonzaga Bulldogs are the No. 1 team in the nation. However, they are not positioned well under the RPI model, ranking No. 11. In spite of how they perform in the West Coast Conference tournament, they should get a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. However, it is hard to see them winning the Championship because they are going to have a tough time against stronger and more athletic teams.

Kansas- Kansas Jayhawks is also another team to look out for because they have been on a roll recently. Over the past month, they have been playing their best basketball of the season. Also, they have bounced back from a three game losing streak by winning seven in a row. Jayhawks are ranked No. 4 in both national polls and have the No. 4 RPI. Therefore, they should land a No.1 seed in the Tournament because they have been improving after being inconsistent in their games.

Duke- As always Duke Blue Devils are guaranteed to make the Tournament because they have always been the favorites in college hoops history. However this season, Blue Devils have not performed well on the road and are showing signs of struggle. Also, they are showing signs of softness because they have a tough time playing against physical teams.

Miami-FL – Miami Hurricanes are one of the teams that are under the radar. They are an excellent team, but they have their ups downs with being consistent. They have a great chance in taking a top seed and having a great run in the tournament, but they need to be consistent in their games in order to have a deep run.

UNLV- The Rebels are an unpredictable team because you never know when they are going to do their best. They have amazing talent, but in order to be a dark force in the Tournament they need to work on their chemistry. As a result, they can make a deep run in the Tournament and can be a threatening force for competitors.

These are the predictions for now, but they can change as the season comes to a close. Stay tuned in to find out which teams are going to make a deep run in the NCAA Tournament.

Gonzaga at the Number One spot in AP Rankings for the first time in History

Gonzaga with the best record in Division I 29-2 is on the top of The Associated Press’ Top 25 for the first time.

Gonzaga Bulldogs moved to the No. 1 spot on Monday after Indiana Hoosiers loss to Minnesota Golden Gophers last week.

During the preseason, Indiana Hoosiers were No. 1 and were on top for nine other weeks. On the other hand, Duke was No. 1 for five weeks. Michigan and Louisville were both on top for one week.

The AP poll began in January 1949 and Gonzaga became the 57th school to achieve the Number one spot on The Associated Press. Before, Gonzaga was at No. 2 which was the highest ranking for the Bulldogs. After Hoosier’s defeat, the Bulldogs were on a roll defeating BYU and Portland to achieve the No. 1 spot.

Gonzaga play their first game as a No.1 team in the semifinals of the West Coast Conference tournament Saturday night.

Jordan McRae-ning all over No. 8 Florida Gators

Looks like the Tennessee Volunteers (17-10) have a reason to party as they beat an already beaten up No. 8 Florida Gators (22-5) Tuesday night. Tennessee guard Jordan McRae scored 27 points proving to be a key player towards his teams chances at a postseason.
Gators were playing without two key players, forward Will Yeguette (knee) and guard Michael Frazier II (concussion).Proving the team needs their talents for the success of their season. The tides are turning as injury-prone Gators are showing signs of weakness so close to March. If you were betting on the Gators for this years March Madness, I’m sorry to say that their performance level is not up to par for NCAA champions.

College Students at Ohio State were going crazy as they began to chant towards the last minutes of the game, “We don’t give a damn for the whole state of Michigan” as No. 4 Michigan State lost for the second straight game against No. 18 Ohio State, 68-60. Things are looking good for Ohio State as one of the nation’s best defenders, Aaron Craft, flaunted his skill on the other end of the court, having his highest scoring game of the season scoring 21 points on Sunday. If you are betting on Ohio State for this years March Madness, you should feel really good about it. This team is coming together as Buckeyes Craft and Deshaun Thomas are proving to be up for the challenge against the nation’s best teams.

Gator Down

The No. 5 Florida Gators lost another player, Michael Frazier, Saturday night as they still went on to beat Arkansas 71-54. Frazier went down in the second half when he struck the opposing players knee. He left the game with a concussion. Frazier is key reserve for the Gators as he is the teams top 3-point shooter (48.9 percent). This will only decrease the Gators shot at the NCAA tournament title. But not by much. Frazier may be a solid 3-point shooter but he is a freshmen that still has years to come before he is most influential in any championship run.

Rankings: The Final Month Before the Tournament

The college basketball season is coming to a close and the Championship Contenders are starting to separate themselves from other teams as they are headed toward the NCAA Tournament.

These nine teams have shown tremendous effort and proven themselves throughout the season in order to make a deep run in March.

9. Georgetown Hoyas

8. Creighton Bluejays

7. Ohio State Buckeyes

6. Miami Hurricanes

5. Kansas Jayhawks

4. Michigan Wolverines

3. Louisville Cardinals

2. Florida Gators

1. Indiana Hoosiers

The only questions is: Which team will win the 2013 Division I Men’s Basketball Championship?

Hurricane season is over.

The No. 2 Miami Hurricanes (22-4) came roaring into the Wake Forest (12-14) but this time it was the Demon Deacons that made it rain over Miami, putting an end to Miami’s 14-game winning streak Saturday morning. Wake Forrest dominated from behind the arc with 58% shooting making the final score 80-65. C.J Harris of Wake Forest played a fascinating game with 23 points on the day. Some might say that statically, Miami had a losing game coming to them but to Wake Forest? Really? It makes it hard to say now that they have a good shot at winning the NCAA tournament in March. But then again the Hurricanes always cause havoc. They cannot have another game like this before March comes if they want to compete with No. 1 Indiana.

Yet another upset as unseeded Missouri falters the No. 5 Florida Gators

Missouri remains undefeated at home (15-0). The power of home court overwhelmed the Gators as they missed 5 straight free throws in the second half. The final score was 63-60. Laurence Bowers of Missouri played his best game with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Should the Gators be worried with March right around the corner? I think not. The NCAA men’s basketball tournament takes away the “Home Court” advantage that Missouri is flourishing on. Anything is still possible. Florida Gators NCAA champs?
